Nepal-Khanal faction calls PP meet

KATHMANDU: The Nepal-Khanal faction of ruling CPN-UML has also called its parliamentary party (PP) meeting on Thursday.

According to a lawmaker close to senior leader Madhav Nepal, the disgruntled faction is holding talks with the lawmakers of its faction prior to the cadres’ national conclave scheduled for today in Lalitpur.

The faction’s PP meeting has been called at Heritage Garden, said a leader.

The faction has called its PP meeting at the same time when UML Chairman and Prime Minister KP Oli faction is holding its PP meeting at Baluwatar at 11 pm today.

The ruling party has been divided after the Supreme Court (SC) on March 7 revoked unification of the then CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) as the Nepal Communist Party (NCP).

The dispute intensified further after Oli held a central committee meeting of his faction on March 12 and unilaterally took away responsibilities of leaders of the Khanal-Nepal faction and nominated 23 former leaders including Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa to the central committee of the CPN-UML.
