Road connects Sikkim with Nepal



KATHMANDU: Sikkim state of India has been connected with Nepal via land route after Sikkim state government expanded road up to Chiwabhanjyang of Yangbarak rural municipality -2 of Panchthar, Nepal-India bordering area.

Movement has become possible via land route after road from Sikkim has been expanded up to Chiwabhanjyang, the starting point of the Pushpalal (mid-hill) highway.

Sikkim state government had put the road expansion task up to border of Nepal in priority and the road connects Sikkim with Nepal for the first time.

Sikkim had expanded road track up to no-man’s land at Chiwabhanjyang around two weeks ago and local government officers, people’s representatives of Sikkim had visited the Chiwabhanjyang area.

Nepal had expanded road up to Chiwabhanjyang in 2070 BS. Though there was talk of Sikkim expanding the road up to Chiwabhanjyang in 2019, the construction work had not gained any pace due to geographical difficulties.

The construction activities had gained momentum in recent period after government of Chief Minister of Sikkim, Prem Singh Gole, had put the road expansion task up to Chiwabhanjyang and developing Uttare bazaar as a business hub in priority.

Earlier, it took around four hours trek to reach Uttare from Chiwabhanjyang. Now, it might take around one and half hours to reach there after road expansion, according to ‘Sikkim News’. RSS
