KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leader and Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand has said that if the party president and the prime minister are different persons, there will be conflict between the party and the government.

Speaking at a program organized by the NC in Bhairahawa Wednesday, Khand backed Prime Minister and NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, saying Deuba should be elected as the party president.

“When the party president is one person and the prime minister is another, it creates conflict in both the party and the government,” Khan argued, adding, “Since Deuba is the prime minister at present, he should be the party president.”

Stating that the current government was determined to bring the peace process to a logical end, he urged all the armed outfits in the country to give up their weapons.

He also said that the government was already in talks with Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplov’-led Communist Party and was working to address their political demands to keep them in the mainstream of national politics.
