CPN-UML takes action against 14 lawmakers, including senior leader Nepal, of rival faction

KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML has taken action against 14 lawmakers, including senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal.

Chairman Oli faction’s took action after the government issued an ordinance on political parties to facilitate split of political parties.

A UML source said action was taken against the lawmakers for violating the party’s whip in accordance to Article 28 (1) of the Political Parties Act.

Other lawmakers of Nepal faction facing the action are Mukunda Neupane, Jeevan Ram Shrestha, Ram Kumari Jhakri, Birodh Khatiwada, Kalyani Khadka, Laxmi Kumari Chaudhary, Niradevi Jairu, Pushpa Kumari Karn, Sarla Kumari Yadav, Kalila Khatun, Krishnalal Maharjan, Bhabani Khapung and Metmani Chaudhary.

The UML also sent a letter to the Parliament Secretariat urging to register the action and relieve the lawmakers from their posts.

According to a source, the letter has reached the General Secretary of the Federal Parliament Secretariat Bharatraj Gautam. However, Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota is to take a call on the letter.

The Speaker usually informs the parliament about the action when the the session is in progress. In the absence of a parliament session, information regarding the action is also conveyed by pasting a notice.
