Five JSP MPs switch sides; leave Chair Thakur to join Co-chair Yadav

KATHMANDU: Five lawmakers of Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) have switched sides in the latest intra-party political developments Saturday.

Members of Parliament (MPs) Amrita Agrahari, Naramaya Dhakal, Rani Mandal, Pramod Sah and Ruhi Nath, who were earlier on Chair Mahantha Thakur’s side, have crossed the aisle and sided with another Chairman Upendra Yadav.

They attended Chair Yadav-convened informal meeting of the JSP parliamentary party (PP) in Balkumari Saturday, sources said. With this batch, Chair Yadav has a strength of 17 MPs on his side.

Except Pramod Sah, all four are MPs made through proportional representation. Sah was elected from Sarlahi. He also opposed the dissolution of parliament and abstained from the meeting convened by Chair Thakur.

Meanwhile, JSP Co-chairs Thakur and Yadav had urged the Election Commission to separate them after an agreement could not be reached between them.
