20 including six foreigners missing in Melamchi and Helambu floods

KATHMANDU:  The Melamchi Bazaar has been flooded after a high dam created after the landslide blocked the Melamchi river burst on Tuesday night.

The lower part of the Melamchi Bazaar has been inundated after the floods occurred.

According to District Administration Office, Sindhupalchowk , 20 people have gone missing in the floods that hit Melamchi municipality and Helambu rural municipality.

The identity of a body found in the flood has yet to be ascertained.

Three are Indians and three are Chinese nationals among those 20 missing in the floods,.

A joint rescue team from Nepal Police, Nepal Army and Armed Police Force has safely rescued 74 people stranded in the floods.

Five injured including a Chinese national have been taken to Dhulikhel Hospital for treatment.

The floods have affected 600 people from Melamchi municipality and 300 from Helambu rural municipality, according to DAO, Sindhupalchowk.

Likewise, three suspension bridges in Helambu rural municipality, one in Melamchi and three motor bridges in Helambu and one in Melamchi have been swept away by the floods, said DAO.
