Writ petition calling to save lives from COVID-19

KATHMANDU: A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court on Monday seeking an order directing the government to dedicate all the state resources to save citizens from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Arguing that the citizens’ right to live cannot be infringed due to lack of medical supplies, advocate Kirtinidhi Sharma Poudel has demanded in the writ that the government be asked to make arrangements to provide treatment to the COVID-19 infected under direct observation of doctors, and to ensure adequate supply of medical oxygen and COVID-19 vaccines.

In the petition, the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Ministries of Home, Finance, Law, Health and Population have been named as the defendants.
