Death toll of Nepalis abroad due to COVID-19 reaches 319



KATHMANDU: Two more Nepalis abroad have succumbed to the coronavirus pandemic.

According to the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), one each died in the UK and South Africa in the past week.

With deaths, the death toll of Nepalis abroad due to coronavirus has reached 319.

Coordinator of NRNA Health Committee Dr. Sanjeev Sapkota said that Nepalis living in 20 foreign countries have died of the pandemic so far.

As of Saturday evening, 54,591 Nepalis in 50 countries have been infected with the coronavirus, of which 52,945 (95 percent) have recovered.

According to the Health Committee, more Nepalis in the Middle East, including the United Kingdom, Japan and South Africa have been infected with the coronavirus in the past week.

Meanwhile, the coronavirus tally reached 267,056 in Nepal as of Saturday afternoon after 240 new cases were reported.

Likewise, the Ministry of Health shared that now the country has 4,058 reported active cases of the virus.

In the past 24 hours, altogether 477 infected people got recovery from the virus infection. So far, 261,044 people recovered from the coronavirus infection in the country.

Similarly, six persons succumbed to the virus across the country in the past 24 hours, hitting the total COVID-19 related deaths to 1,954.
