CCMC scrapped, new mechanism in place

KATHMANDU: The government has scrapped the Covid-19 Crisis Management Center (CCMC) and formed a new mechanism in place. The old body was scrapped after the ordinance on the formation of CCMC became inactive.

Meanwhile, former chief executive officer of CCMC Balananda Sharma has also resigned. Instead, the government has formed the COVID-19 Crisis Management Coordinating Committee (CCMCC).

The new CCMCC will be headed by Maheshwar Neupane, Secretary to Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers. First class officers from the security agencies will be members in the committee.

The Covid-19 Crisis Management Ordinance was deactivated on September 16. There is a provision that if the ordinance is not approved by the parliament within 60 days of the first sitting of the legislature, it will be automatically be inactive.
