Chinese Embassy Spokesperson told media that the Embassy was aware of the demand of the Chinese nationals and the embassy was taking initiatives to facilitate their return.

One of the protesting Chinese nationals said, “Currently, we are staying in a hotel. It’s been five months since we have been without work. We are spending Rs 2,500 daily living here. There are 1,500 to 2,000 of us here now and we want to return to our country.” The protestor rued that they could not return even though they were ready to bear the cost of their return.

Many Nepali students, who returned home on study leave due to the pandemic, have also not been able to return to China to continue their studies.

The Chinese government is yet to take a decision to allow Nepali nationals to return to China for study purposes though efforts at the diplomatic level are being made.

The recent rise in coronavirus infections in China has led to a lockdown in some Chinese states.
