NC leader Koirala says Dadeldhura ward convention unlikely to be held again

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Shashank Koirala has said possibility of holding ward convention again in Dadeldhura – party President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s home district – was slim.

He said so after holding discussions with the Central Election Committee in Kathmandu Thursday.

Talking to the media at NC central party office in Sanepa, he said, “I do not see the possibility of holding another ward convention in Dadeldhura.” He apprised that he discussed with the election committee about the condition under which Dadeldhura ward convention was held by mobilizing thousands of police.

The election committee held the ward convention under police presence on September 10 though Dadeldhura District Working Committee decided against it.

The Poudel faction and district president Karna Bahadur Malla’s faction had objected to the ward convention and demanded a re-election there, however, NC General Secretary Koirala said the election committee told them that there was low possibility of holding ward convention again.

Ward conventions started from September 3. So far, ward conventions of 57 districts have been held.

In the remaining districts, ward convention is scheduled for September 21.

The NC’s 14th General Convention is being held in Kathmandu on September 25 to 29.
