DOHA: With the Taliban’s taking hold of Afghanistan, the government has started making preparations to repatriate Nepalis working there.
On the day the government formed a committee to coordinate the repatriation of Nepalis in Afghanistan, the Nepali embassy in Delhi issued a notice urging Nepalis to prepare to return home.
For their journey back home, the embassy has requested the concerned employers, concerned Nepali and Afghan manpower companies to contact the embassy for the coronavirus PCR test and other necessary health check-ups and to book air tickets and fill in their details on the webpage of the Consular Services Department.
The embassy formally requested the relevant employers in Afghanistan, the United Nations, and other diplomatic missions, to facilitate the safe return of Nepalis working in their missions.
The embassy has also provided a contact number +91-8929601925 and email address [email protected] and [email protected] of Nepali Embassy in Delhi if they need any advice, suggestions, coordination, and assistance for their return to Nepal.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal, there are about 1,500 Nepalis in Afghanistan Nepalis are deployed in UN missions and embassies of different countries. President Ashraf Ghani has fled the country after the Taliban took control of most states.
Taliban insurgents have seized control of the office of President Ghani since he left the country.

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the Government of Nepal will provide patronage to all Nepalis in Afghanistan waiting for the rescue.
Assuring of necessary coordination with the concerned authorities to make rescue arrangements for all Nepalis, PM Deuba took to his Twitter handle today morning and said that the government has already taken cognizance of the issue.
Ensuring of the fulfillment of the responsibility on the part of the government with caution and seriousness, Deuba, shared that he had already instructed the officials concerned on Sunday to take stock of the Nepalis and their situation in Afghanistan and make arrangements for rescue in case of emergency.
Many expatriates in Afghanistan have been returning to their home countries or elsewhere since the Taliban insurgents have taken over the Afghani President’s office. Many countries’ governments have been airlifting their citizens at risk of danger in Afghanistan.
“Necessary coordination and guardianship are the responsibility of the government for the Nepalis waiting for the safety of rescue,” the PM tweeted.
