UML SC meeting decides not to give vote of confidence to PM Deuba

KATHMANDU: The Standing Committee (SC) meeting of the CPN-UML has decided not to give a vote of confidence to Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.

The SC meeting held at Tulsi Lal Memorial Foundation in Lalitpur took a decision to this effect.

Only the leaders from the Oli faction were present in the meeting.

Nepali Congress President Deuba has already become the Prime Minister of Nepal through the mandamus issued by the Supreme Court (SC).

Prime Minister Deuba has to take a vote of confidence within one month from the date of his appointment as per the provision of the Constitution.

With the reinstatement of the House of House of Representatives, President Bidya Bhandari has summoned the House meeting at 4 pm on July 18.

Earlier, leaders of the Nepal-Khanal faction – Vice Chairman Bhim Rawal, Standing Committee members Surendra Pandey, Ghanashyam Bhusal, Gokarna Bista and Bhim Acharya – had reached the Tulsi Lal Memorial Foundation in Chysal, Lalitpur, the venue of the meeting.

Entering the venue of the meeting, UML Vice Chairman Rawal had urged the establishment to postpone the SC and Parliament Party (PP) meeting.

Rawal demanded that the meeting be adjourned, stating that the report prepared by the task force needs to be discussed.

They boycotted the SC meeting after Chairman KP Sharma Oli refused to adjourn it.

The PP meeting of the party has been called for 3 pm today.
