KATHMANDU: The Nepal Army (NA) has started carrying out rescue operations with the help of a helicopter in the flood-hit Melamchi area of Sindhupalchowk district.

The rescue team rescued two people stranded on the roof-top of a hotel building in Melamchi bazaar with the helicopter.

They had fled to the top of the hotel after the lower floors of the building were submerged by the floodwater.

The NA rescued them from the roof-top of the hotel building.

There have been different versions on the details of the missing in the Melamchi floods.

Health Minister Sher Bahadur Tamang, who is elected to the House of Representatives (HoR) from Sindhupalchowk itself, has informed that over 50 people have gone missing.

Seven people have died in the floods induced by incessant rains in Helambu rural municipality.

“Seven people have died in Helambu,” said CDO Arun Pokharel, adding, “Their identities are yet to be ascertained.”

Facilities including houses and bridges have been washed away by the floods in Helambu.
