Massive floods and landslides in Melamchi; scores feared missing (in pics)



KATHMANDU: Massive floods and landslides have occurred in Melamchi of Sindhupalchowk causing damages in many places.

The monsoon-induced disaster that occurred on Tuesday evening left drinking water supplies and electricity disrupted in some places.

District Police Office, Sindhupalchowk has informed that the landslide occurred at Nakote in Helambu 1 which is nine kilometers above the source of Melamchi drinking water project.

Some houses at Timbu Bazaar have been swept away. The loss incurred by the floods is yet to be estimated. It has posed a risk to Malamchi Bazaar.

According to Chief District Officer of Sindhupalchowk Arun Pokharel, camps of Armed Police Force (APF), Nepal Police and Nepal Army have been washed away by the floods in the Melamchi river.

Around a dozen people have gone missing in the floods. The other details are yet to come.
