Writ against PM’s swearing-in registered at Supreme Court

KATHMANDU: A writ petition has been registered at the Supreme Court against the swearing-in of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

Advocate Chandra Kant Gyawali filed the writ Sunday seeking to repeat the PM’s swearing, stating that the swearing-in Friday was invalid.

President Bidhya Devi Bhandari swore in PM Oli Friday as per Article 76 (3) of the constitution. In the swearing-in, PM Oli objected to repeat a certain phrase read out by the President and had missed out reading couple of more words, for which he drew flak from civil society and constitutionalists, among others.

Likewise, Advocate Santosh Bhandari presented another writ against the PM’s oath and appointment of seven ministers, which is under review before being registered.

Legal eagles have alleged that PM intentionally undermined the oath and disregarded the President.
