Journalist Karki succumbs to COVID-19



KATHMANDU: Chairperson of Federation of Nepali Journalists, Channel Nepal Pratishtan Unit Shanti Ram Karki has died of COVID-19. He was 34 years old.

Soon after testing positive to Coronavirus on May 2, he was admitted to the Manmohan memorial hospital in Swayambhu, Kathmandu.

He was then put on ventilator support after his condition deteriorated four days later on May 2. He passed away at 8:00 pm Saturday.

A resident of the Jhapa district, Karki was active in journalism for the past 15 years. Editor of Janatatimes.com, Karki was a central member of Press Chautari.

Chair of Press Chautari Ganesh Basnet and General Secretary of Federation of Nepali Journalists Roshan Puri has expressed shock over the demise of Karki while wishing eternal peace of the departed soul and condolences to the members of the bereaved family.

According to the latest data, so far 13 journalists have died of COVID-19 while more than 750 have been infected with coronavirus.
