KATHMANDU: Karnali Province Chief Minister Mahendra Bahadur Shahi has got a new life following recent political developments in the province and country.

Four CPN-UML lawmakers along with six Nepali Congress lawmakers have rescued CPN-Maoist Center Chief Minister Mahendra Bahadur Shahi’s government in Karnali province.

In the first meeting of the seventh session of the Province Assembly Friday (today), CM Shahi filed a motion seeking vote of confidence. According to sources, Prakash Jwala, Ambar Thapa, Kurma Raj Shahi and Nanda Singh Budha from the CPN-UML’s Nepal-Khanal faction voted in favor of the motion to support CM Shahi. They allegedly crossed the floor to show majority on CM Shahi’s side.

Prakash Jwala, who had been the Minister for Economic Affairs in Shahi’s government, had resigned from the cabinet few days ago.

The province has 20 lawmakers from UML, 12 from CPN-Maoist Center, six from NC and one from Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP).

RPP lawmaker had firstly voted in favor of the motion, however, she had changed her position and stood against CM Shahi in the 3-minute time given for changing decision.
