Schools to remain shut for a week as infection cases spike in Banke

BANKE: Schools in Banke district are set to be closed for a week starting Sunday after 10 teachers and five students tested positive for COVID-19 in the district.

A meeting of Crisis Management Committee of Nepalgunj Sub Metropolitan City held on Thursday took a decision to this effect. The sub-metropolis informed the District COVID-19 Crisis Management Center (DCCMC) about its decision.

According to Gorkha Bahadur Thapa, the official at the Education Department of the Nepalgunj Sub Metropolitan City, 10 teachers and five students from four community schools and three private schools were diagnosed with COVID-19.

With 366 infection cases in the past one week, there have been mounting pressures on the stakeholders to impose preventive measures including border restrictions and closure of educational institutions.

Similarly, Chief District Officer of Banke Shiva Ram Gelal said locals have been banned from going to India except for essential jobs.
