KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli has claimed that CPN-Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ launched the ‘People’s War’ in league with then King Gyanendra Shah.
Administering the oath of office to UML central members he nominated after being re-elected in the party’s 10th General Convention, Chairman Oli said that Prachanda had signed a five point agreement with the monarch in power.
“After the agreement with Prachanda, King Gyanendra scheduled visit to the remote areas like Rukum and Rolpa. Had there been no agreement between those two, then King would not have dared to visit those areas as Maoist movement was terrifying all,” UML Chair Oli said on Wednesday.
Gyanendra took power on February 1, 2005, and started direct rule by banning the parties.
Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’, now the Vice-Chairman of Oli led UML, had been at the strategically top post during the Maoist launched ‘armed rebellion.’ Many defecting Maoist Center leaders including Badal, Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, Lekhraj Bhatt, Prabhu Sah hold officials’ role in UML.
