CP Mainali re-elected general secretary of CPN-Marxist Leninist

KATHMANDU: Chandra Prakash Mainali has been re-elected as the General Secretary of CPN-Marxist–Leninist.

The party’s General Convention held in Chitwan elected an 81-member Central Committee (CC) led by Mainali. The CC will be picking members to the party’s Politburo and the Standing Committee (SC).

Mainali is the founding general secretary of the CPN-Marxist Leninist founded in December 1975. The present day main opposition CPN-UML was formed in January 1991 after merger with communist parties, including Mainali-led Marxist Leninist.

The CPN-Marxist–Leninist was reorganized following a UML split in 1997 during Bam Dev Gautam’s leadership. Mainali continued the party after other leaders returned back to the UML in 2002.

Ever since, Mainali is leading the Marxist Leninist party as general secretary.
