SC overturns interim order allowing filing taxes within 30 days after ban fully lifted

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has revoked an interim order that gave taxpayers 30 days to pay taxes after the prohibitory order fully lifted.

A division bench of justices Ananda Mohan Bhattarai and Nahakul Subedi Tuesday ordered the Ministry of Finance to waive the fine only till the time provisioned by Article 19 of the Finance Act 2020.

A single bench of Justice Meera Khadka on May 19 issued an interim order directing the government not to collect taxes and levy fines during the period of the prohibitory order. Justice Khadka had also ordered the government to arrange for collecting taxes within 30 days after the ban completely lifted.
