POKHARA: Chief Minister of Gandaki Pradesh Prithvi Subba Gurung has ended the ongoing session of the Province Assembly after being tipped off that opposition parties including Nepali Congress (NC) are filing a no confidence motion against him.

Lawmakers of four opposition parties – Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center), Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) and Rastria Janamorcha (RJM) were preparing to lodge a no confidence motion in the parliament secretariat on Thursday.

Currently, four opposition parties NC, Maoist Center, JSP and RJM are holding a meeting on possible ways to the current political deadlock.  According to NC leader Krishna Chandra Nepali, the parties are preparing to call for a special session.

“We have strongly condemned the government’s decision to end the session abruptly,” said Nepali, adding, “We are preparing to demand a special session of the Provincial Assembly.”

“The government is escaping fearing to face the no confidence motion. It cannot escape forever,” said Nepali

In the 60-member province assembly of Gandaki Pradesh, CPN-UML has 27 lawmakers, NC has 15, Maoist Center (12), RJM (three) and JSP has two.

There will be 32 lawmakers if the NC, Maoist Center, RJM and JSP unite.
