No confidence motion to be filed against CM Gurung today



POKHARA: Opposition parties including Nepali Congress (NC) are set to file a no confidence motion against Chief Minister of Gandaki Pradesh Prithvi Subba Gurung.

Lawmakers of four parties – NC, CPN (Maoist Center), Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) and Rastriya Janamorcha (RJM) – are preparing to file a no confidence motion against Chief Minister Gurung today, said NC lawmaker Kumar Khadka.

Meanwhile, the lawmakers have been directed to reach at the office of Province Assembly of Gandaki Pradesh at 11 am.

RJM has been decisive in the new power-sharing in Gandaki Pradesh and if it lends support to the no confidence motion, the Gurung-led government will topple. Gurung is considered close to Prime Minister KP Oli.

In the 60-member province assembly of Gandaki Pradesh, CPN-UML has 27 lawmakers, NC has 15, Maoist Center (12), RJM (three) and JSP has two.

There will be 32 lawmakers if the NC, Maoist Center, RJM and JSP unite.

As many as 31 lawmakers are required to file a no confidence motion against Chief Minister Gurung.
