Protest staged outside Myanmar Embassy in Kathmandu



KATHMANDU: Human Rights and Peace Society staged a demonstration outside Bhaisepati-based Myanmar Embassy in Lalitpur Monday afternoon.

Demonstrators chanted slogans against February 1 military coup that ousted the civilian government of Aung San Suu Kyi, killings and violence against protesters, and illegal detention of political prisoners in Myanmar.

They have demanded restoration of civilian government rule in Myanmar, release of political prisoners and a stop to violence against protesters, among other things.

The non-governmental organization’s chapters in Chitwan, Baglung, Rupandehi, Tehrathum, Palpa and Sankhuwasabha also protested against Myanmar military seize and atrocities in their respective districts Monday afternoon.
