NC, Maoist Center and JSP holding talks on power-sharing today

KATHMANDU: Main opposition Nepali Congress (NC), CPN (Maoist Center) and Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) are holding talks in a bid to forge an alliance for a new power-sharing on Monday.

These three parties are holding talks for the first time on power-sharing following a series of separate meetings between the two parties before.

According to sources, today’s meeting will try to forge a common understanding on the candidacy of the future Prime Minister.

Opposition parties have more or less arrived at a consensus on NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba as the future Prime Minister.

Leaders close to President Deuba said the possibility of forming a government under the leadership of NC is ever-growing in view of having the largest number of seats among the three parties and the party unity on the future political course.

The Maoist Center has been saying that the Prime Minister KP Oli must be ousted under any circumstances. Similarly, the JSP has been publicly stating that it will support the party that will fulfill its three-point demands.

Its demands include release of its lawmaker Resham Chaudhary, withdrawal of cases filed against its cadres and leaders during the Madhes Movement and amendment to the Constitution.
