KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Oli has said that the House of Representatives (HoR) had to be dissolved after some party leaders tried to exercise parallel power.

He said that although he had tried to prevent the extravagance of some leaders within the party from entering the parliament, it was not successful.

Unveiling his government’s three-year achievements on Monday, Prime Minister Oli said that he had been facing the same fate as the coalition government for a year.

He said that the bills brought by the government were stuck in the name of discussion, and appointments to constitutional bodies were not allowed to be appointed.

He claimed that if the parliament was not dissolved, there would be no unified party, no majority and stability.

PM Oli further claimed that the House of Representatives had to be dissolved due to lack of cooperation from within the party.

He said that as he was the prime minister with the support of 64 percent of the parliamentarians before recommending the dissolution of the House of Representatives, he did not see the possibility of forming an alternative government.

Prime Minister Oli made it clear that he was compelled to take the step to prevent national politics from being tainted by the connivance of some people.

“In fact, I was facing difficulties and obstructions from the very beginning in running the government,” he added.

“Some forces did not allow me to work according to the aspirations of the people. Therefore, the only way out was to get the people’s mandate again. How could they (Prachanda-Nepal faction) say that going to the polls is undemocratic? Is holding election a regressive move?”
