PM Modi to visit US to attend Quad summit



NEW DELHI: India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit the US to attend the Quad Leader’s Summit and the high-level segment of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

PM Modi will attend the Leaders’ Summit of the Quadrilateral Framework on September 24 in Washington which will be hosted US President Joe Biden.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Japanese PM Yoshihide Suga will also attend the summit, according to India Today.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs said that the leaders will review the Quad vaccine initiative for Covid-19 which was announced in March this year.

Meanwhile, the White House said the leaders would discuss deepening their ties and advancing practical cooperation on areas like combatting Covid-19, addressing the climate crisis and promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific.

PM Modi is scheduled to address the General Debate of the High-Level Segment of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on September 25.

The theme for this year’s General Debate is “Building Resilience through hope to recover from Covid-19, rebuild sustainably, respond to the needs of the planet, respect the rights of people, and revitalize the United Nations”.
