KATHMANDU:  Senior CPN-UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal has held separate talks with party Vice Chairman Bam Dev Gautam and Maoist Center Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha at his residence in Koteshwor Wednesday.

The two leaders went to leader Nepal’s residence Wednesday morning and held separate discussions.

According to sources, leader Nepal discussed issues concerning the opposition alliance with Shrestha and about resolving disputes in the party with Gautam.

The meeting among the leaders comes on the first day after Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba was appointed the prime minister. Deuba was sworn in on Tuesday.

The opposition alliance led by new PM Deuba had leader Nepal’s support in the aftermath of ex-PM KP Sharma Oli’s subsequent moves to dissolve the parliament that led to Deuba being the PM. Without the support of 23 lawmakers close to Nepal, an exercise to unseat ex-PM Oli would have yielded little result.

Meanwhile, UML Chairman Oli and leader Nepal have agreed to a 10-point deal for party unity, which awaits ratification from UML’s Central Committee (CC). The CC meeting was to take place today but Oli’s exit from Baluwatar has affected the CC meeting, which throughout Oli’s term used to be held at PM’s official residence in Baluwatar.
