Karnali province: Budget deliberations yet to begin

KARNALI: Budget deliberations have not yet begun in the Karnali Province Assembly through a month has already passed since the presentation of its budget for the fiscal year 2021/22.

Owing to continued disruptions from main opposition CPN-UML, the deliberations have not begun despite the constitutional provision of endorsing the budget within Asar (mid-July) after its presentation in the provincial assembly.

Province Minster for Economic Affairs and Planning Gopal Sharma on Asar 1 (mid-June) had presented a budget of Rs 36 billion 540 million in the provincial assembly for the fiscal year 2021/22. All the meetings held after the budget presentation had been put off due to obstructions by the CPN-UML.

Tuesday’s meeting of the provincial assembly did not enter into the agenda. The province assembly members hastened to obstruct the House session immediately after its convening.

The UML has stuck to its agenda of continuing with obstruction until the removal of its members from ministerial portfolio. The UML blamed that the province government has inducted its members in the cabinet against the Supreme Court verdict in regard to their party.
