UML rival factions’ meeting concludes in Singha Durbar

Agreed to form a task force under the leadership of PM Oli and leader Nepal



KATHMANDU: The meeting held among leaders close to Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli and senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal has concluded in Singha Durbar.

Emerging out from the meeting late Friday evening, UML leader Bhim Rawal said talks centered around keeping the party united and to achieve this end, a task force would be formed under the leadership of faction leaders i.e. PM Oli and leader Nepal. Rawal also said talks would be held again.

Nepal faction went to the meeting with their demands, including restoring the party’s status to May 16, 2018, and scrapping the unilateral decisions taken by PM Oli on March 12, 2020, in the absence of leaders of Nepal faction.

Another leader attending the meeting said PM Oli has agreed to restore party committees to the status of May 16, 2018, as demanded.

PM Oli and leader Nepal held decisive talks Thursday to explore ways to keep the party united and move forward. The agreement led to PM Oli being reappointed as Prime Minsiter as per Article 76 (3) of the constitution.

The two factions are under pressure to resolve differences between the UML factions as PM Oli must secure a vote of confidence from the parliament in a month.
