Medical supplies up to $100,000 can be procured directly through demand draft/TT

KATHMANDU: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has made provisions to procure health supplies, including oxygen-related items, directly through demand draft / TT.

The NRB made such an arrangement after the acute shortage of oxygen started being felt with the recent surge in coronavirus cases in the country.

With the  NRB decision, import of oxygen cylinders, oxygen concentrators, oxygen tanks, oxygen generators, oxygen manufacturing plants, oxygen delivery accessories or oxygen-related materials and ventilator goods can be done directly through draft/TT.

Businesses can import goods up to $100,000 through draft/TT. For the purchase of goods above $100,000, the permission of the Department of Health Services will be necessary.

The NRB decision is aimed at minimizing the risk of the second wave of coronavirus, which is proving to be a national catastrophe.

Moreover, NRB has also relaxed provision to acquire Business Credibility Information (BIC) to import health supplies.
