DPM Pokhrel calls journalists “brokers”

GANDAKI: Deputy Prime Minister Ishwor Pokhrel has alleged professional journalism and journalists of being pimps and criminals.

“Those working in the corporate media are brokers,” he said at a program in Pokhara on Sunday.

Pokhrel also accused “brokers” of doing criminal reporting, and called on journalists close to Nepal Communist Party (NCP) to rise up against such a tendency.

“Haven’t you seen criminal stuff in the corporate media? he asked, adding, “Some media have been spreading rumors.”

He labeled some corporate media as brokers saying, “Just look at the way they report and disseminate news.”

He also alleged them for disseminating fake news urging journalists to stand up against such criminal attitude in the corporate media.

Speaking at the program, he also called on the journalists affiliated to the NCP to protest against unprofessional journalism.

He also accused professional journalism of bribery and crime.

Pokhrel also said that there was no alternative to go for fresh election for country’s economic development and prosperity.

Inaugurating the Gandaki province-level assembly of Press Organisation Nepal in Pokhara, DPM Pokhrel argued that the government tried to go for fresh mandate to fulfill country’s desire for political stability and prosperity.

He further said that dissolution of House of Representatives (HoR) was compulsion and stressed that support of all sides was expected to make the election a success.

Saying party was united for the cause of country’s prosperity and political stability, DPM Pokhrel expressed the view that country’s prosperity and political stability could not been materialized because of lust for power of some leaders within the party.

He opined that the media should play a role to disseminate the achievements gained by the government in three years, adding that journalists should be responsible for the development of professional capacity.
