Speaker Sapkota says UML’s obstruction of HoR’s last session unlawful

KATHMANDU: Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota said the main opposition party CPN-UML’s obstruction of the parliament in the last session was not in accordance with the law.

While inspecting the Parliament building at New Baneshwor on Monday, Speaker Sapkota said, “What the UML is doing is against the constitution, the rules, and the law. The people understand this.”

The UML had obstructed the parliament’s last session, objecting to the speaker’s role of not recognizing the UML’s expulsion of lawmakers who defected the party. The UML blamed the speaker for not being impartial whereas Speaker Sapkota claimed he had been neutral and impartial.

“My action is based on the constitution of Nepal and the rules of the House of Representatives and I am always committed to do the same,” Speaker Sapkota said.

The ninth session of the House of Representatives is beginning on Tuesday.
