KATHMANDU: Four former vice-chancellors (VC) of Tribhuvan University (TU) have urged the government and political parties to find a justified solution to the struggle of the Nepal Bar Association and the crisis seen in judiciary.
Warning that the people could accuse the government of being irresponsible and political leaders as opportunistic, the four TU ex-VCs said, “We urge the government and the parties to take immediate steps to improve the situation and resolve the crisis seen in judiciary.”
Issuing a joint statement Saturday, four former TU vice-chancellors Mahesh Kumar Upadhyay, Kedar Bhakta Mathema, Kamal Krishna Joshi and Nabin Prakash Jung Shah said the indifference shown by the authorities responsible towards the struggle of Bar Association was unfortunate for the country.
Nepal Bar Association and Supreme Court (SC) justices have been protesting, demanding the resignation of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana. SC judges have not heard any cases other than habeas corpus and service seekers have been badly affected.
The government and political parties are of the view that the problem of the court should be solved by the court itself.
Stating that it was necessary to find an immediate solution regarding the legal practitioners’ movement so as not to erode the trust of the people towards the judiciary, they said, “If the court loses the trust of the people then where will the people go to seek justice? It is surprising that the government and the political parties remain insensitive to such a situation.”
