Firing as police clash with timber smugglers in Birgunj



BIRGUNJ: Police have opened firings in the jungle of Paterwasugauli rural municipality in Parsa district on Monday morning.

A mobile team of District Police Office, Birgunj opened fire in the course of taking wood smugglers under control while they smuggling wooden logs in the jungle near Pharhadawa.

“A team of security personnel opened three rounds of firing on eight motorcycle-borne smugglers in retaliation after the latter tried to attack them,” said DSP Om Prakash Khanal, the spokesperson of the District Police Office (DOP), Parsa.

The smugglers have fled the scene leaving two motorcycles and two logs of timber. Police have recovered them on Monday morning.
