Deuba in Shital Niwas, awaits redrafted statement before swearing-in

Swearing-in slated for 6 pm delayed due to President's Office statement

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) Parliamentary Party leader and party President Sher Bahadur Deuba has entered President’s Office, Shital Niwas for swearing-in but has not reached the hall where swearing-in is to take place.

Earlier, the President’s Office issued a statement appointing Deuba to the post of prime minister on Tuesday, but had skipped mentioning the article as per which he was appointed. Deuba was ordered to be appointed as per constitutional provision by the Supreme Court. But the President’s Office statement indicated that he was being appointed on the basis on the court order rather than constitutional provision.

Deuba objected to the statement issued by the President’s Office and demanded it be redrafted by disclosing the article under which he was being appointed.

The President’s Office, meanwhile, is redrafting the statement, and therefore, the swearing-in is being delayed.

Newly-appointed Deuba is waiting for the President’s Office to issue a new statement after which he is to take the oath of office. He was scheduled to swear-in at 6 pm but the matter has delayed the swearing-in ceremony.
