KATHMANDU: The National Youth Council has launched a ‘federal mock youth parliament’ program in a bid to make youths aware about parliamentary activities.
The virtual program means to provide leadership development skills and make youths aware of the parliamentary system and democracy, said the youth council’s Executive Vice Chairperson Madhav Prasad Dhungel. Earlier, the council had launched the ‘provincial mock youth parliament’ in all seven provinces and a municipal assembly at local levels.
“The country cannot pursue prosperity when youths are not aware of the country’s laws, constitution, rights and duties. Through this program, youths can learn about how the government functions in line with the constitution,” he said.
Eighty youths between 16 to 24 age groups selected from the ‘provincial mock youth parliament’ from across the country are participating in the three-day program, it has been said.
Under the program, participating youths will be symbolically elected to prime minister, speaker, deputy speaker, minister, chief whip, whip, parliamentary party leaders and lawmakers. And they will practice the operation of the federal executive parliament.
