Humla sees increasing COVID-19 cases following removal of prohibitory order

HUMLA: COVID-19 cases have increased in the Humla district shortly after the prohibitory order was lifted.

There has been dense mobility of people in the market and elsewhere after the prohibitory measure was removed.

Moreover, people largely ignored to follow the health protocol and wear facemasks and sanitizers while stepping out of the house.

As a result, the infection cases have risen, said officiating superintendent of District Hospital, Humla, Dr Tashi Yanjuk Lama.

“The infection rate is cent percent in past some days.

The point may be reached where there is an inability to provide treatment if the infection case increases at this rate,” he said.

On Sunday alone, five people were tested positive for the deadly virus. The figure is from 14 antigen tests at the laboratory of the district hospital.

The district hospital cannot endure increasing COVID-19 patients without the resources needed to treat them, he said.

At present, four COVID-19 patients are receiving treatment at the hospital, he said. So far, four people have died from the deadly infection in the district.

Likewise, 290 infection cases out of 1,980 antigen tests have been reported. Out of which, 43 cases are active while others have got over the virus.
