President’s Office issues notice regarding call to form majority govt

KATHMANDU: The President’s Office Thursday evening has issued a notice formally stating none of the members of House of Representatives (HoR) had come forward to form a majority government under Article 76 (2) of the constitution.

The President had on Monday invited political parties to submit claims to form a majority government by 9 pm Thursday.

Since nobody staked claim, the President will now re-appoint CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli as Prime Minister under Article 76 (3) of the constitution.

Under Article 76(4), there is provision for the PM appointed under 76 (3) to gain a vote of confidence from the parliament within a month.

The President is also preparing to hold a swear-in ceremony Friday.
