Deuba, Prachanda to reach Shital Niwas on time to submit govt formation claim



KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ have agreed to reach Shital Niwas on time to stake claim for majority government formation Thursday.

The two leaders met at Deuba residence in Budhanilkantha this afternoon.

According to a leader privy to the meeting, the two have decided to reach President’s Office at Shital Niwas to submit their claim for forming a majority government as per Article 76 (2) of the constitution.

If they cannot present majority by 9 pm today, then Article 76 (3) will come into play and accordingly parliamentary party leader of the party commanding highest lawmakers in the parliament will be appointed Prime Minister and a minority government will be formed on condition that the PM will have to gain a vote of confidence of the parliament within 30 days of government formation.

If the NC and Maoist Center cannot form a majority government then UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli will be sworn in PM again under Article 76 (3).
