Nepal-Khanal faction to resign en-masse if Oli disagrees to take party back to May 16 status

KATHMANDU: The internal dispute of the ruling CPN-UML has taken a new turn after the establishment revoked the actions taken against its four leaders including senior leader Madhav Nepal.

An emergency Standing Committee meeting of the UML held at Baluwatar this morning took a decision to this effect. Party chairman KP Sharma Oli and senior leader Nepal are holding a one-one meeting today following the revocation of the actions taken against them.

In the meeting, Nepal-Khanal faction will float a proposal to go back to the status of May 16, 2018 and if the establishment does not agrees to it, all the lawmakers will resign en-masse today itself, said Standing Committee member Yubaraj Gyawali.

Earlier, the disgruntled faction leaders had said that they would resign en-masse by 9 am today.

“Revoking action is not a big thing. Our demand is that the party should be taken back to the status of May 16, 2018. We have long been putting forth this demand,” said Gyawali, adding, “If this demand is not fulfilled, we will tender our resignations en-masse.”

He further said Oli should scrap all the decisions taken on March 12 and afterwards.

Oli has been saying that the party cannot return to the status of May 16 2018.

Nepal-Khanal faction is planning to resign en-masse before the deadline to form the new government expires today.

The deadline is expiring at 9 pm.
