JSP to come up with a unified view on govt formation as deadline expiring today

KATHMANDU: The Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP), a key player in the new power-sharing in the current political stalemate of the country, is holding an officer-bearers’ meeting on Thursday.

An officer-bearers’ meeting of the JSP called for today will come up with a common view on the formation of a coalition government, said Federal Council Chairman of the party Dr Baburam Bhattarai.

“We will come with a unified view on Thursday,” Bhattarai said dismissing reports that the party had two factions.

“It is obvious that a democratic party will have different opinions. In fact, JSP has two different views, not two factions,” he said.

An informal meeting of the office-bearers of the JSP held on Wednesday to discuss the formation of a new government ended inconclusively.

In yesterday’s meeting held at the party office in Balkumari, the leaders discussed various options regarding the formational of an alternative government.

It should be noted that today is the last day for the formation of an alternative government as per Article 76 (2) of the Constitution.

President Bidya Bhandari had given a three-day deadline to form a new government after Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli failed to secure the vote of confidence on Monday.

The deadline is expiring at 9 pm today.
