JSP agrees to form government under its leadership

KATHMANDU: The Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) has decided to form a government under its leadership.

A meeting of the party’s office-bearers held in Kathmandu has decided to lead the new government, a JSP leader confided with Khabarhub.

The party is, however, undecided as to who – Dr. Baburam Bhattarai or Mahanta Thakur — would become the Prime Minister.

The meeting has been postponed for a few days as several of the party leaders have gone out of the Kathmandu Valley for New Year’s celebrations.

Even though the two factions led by Chairman Upendra Yadav and Chairman of the Federal Council Dr. Baburam Bhattarai and another led by Chairman Mahanta Thakur and senior leader Rajendra Mahato remained adamant about their respective stance in the meeting, they have agreed to form the government under JSP’s leadership.

Chairman Thakur and senior leader Mahato have argued that since Prime Minister KP Oli had initiated the process of addressing their demands, it would not be wise to publicize any decisions now.

However, the faction led by Yadav and Bhattarai claimed that the government led by PM Oli should be toppled at any cost.

The meeting will continue in a day or two, a party source said.
