KATHMANDU: Fifty seven candidates, including candidate vying for the post of party President, have withdrawn their nominations in the 14th Nepali Congress General Convention.

The party’s Central Election Committee had extended the deadline for withdrawing candidacy till 1 pm today.

Among those withdrawing their candidacies are Yubaraj Neupane who had filed his candidacy for the post of party president and Surendra Prasad Chaudhary who had filed nomination for the post of joint general secretary.

The rest 55 candidates have withdrawn their candidacy for the post of party central member. Meanwhile, an election for the various party posts is taking place tomorrow.

The Committee has set up voting centers at three places and managed 1,100 booths for that purpose. General Convention Media Centre coordinator Dr Suresh Acharya said the number of voting centers and booths has been increased in view of a large number of voters.

Accordingly, 293 booths would be kept at the City Hall, 293 booths at Bhrikutimandap premises, and 514 booths at Bhrikutimandap Hall. The voting will take place from 8 am to 5 pm on Monday.

Four thousand and seven hundred representatives are attending the general convention. It will elect the party office-bearers including one president, two vice-presidents, two general secretaries, and eight joint general secretaries. Similarly, the general convention will elect a 134-member central working committee.

The treasurer would be however picked by the central committee.
