JOMSOM: Upgradation of six sections of Jomsom-Korala road under Kaligandaki Corridor has been completed.

The Beni-Jomsom-Korala Road Project had signed a contract to build the 110-kilometer two-lane gravel road connecting Jomsom, the Mustang’s headquarters, to the Chinese border point at Korala in seven sections.

The construction began in 2016. The work of gravelling has been completed by widening 75 kilometers of roads, construction of walls, drains, turning and grading of six other packages except 25 kilometers from Charang-Choser, said Jagat Prajapati, head of the project.

A budget of Rs. 2.6 billion was allocated for upgrading the Jomsom-Korala road. Out of the budget allocation of Rs. 240 million for this section, only Rs. 150 million has been spent.

65 percent construction has been completed. There is still work to be done in Charang.

The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure has given the company a deadline of April to complete the work due to COVID-19.

Project Chief Prajapati said that the contract agreement will be canceled and the new contract process will be started if the construction company does not return to work even within the period given by the government.

Upgradation work has been completed in the most challenging place of this road section which is a project of national pride.

According to the project, the construction of Samar Bhir, Jhokhola and Ghakar has been completed. Project Chief Prajapati said that an alternative road has been constructed in Ghakar.
