SC orders govt to produce Ruby Khan before court on Thursday



KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered the government to produce Ruby Khan, the leader of a women’s team that walked from Nepalgunj to Kathmandu for justice, before the court on Thursday.

Police arrested Khan from Maitighar Mandala last Friday and sent her to Nepalgunj.

Hearing a habeas corpus petition filed by advocate Mohana Ansari on behalf of Khan, Supreme Court Justice Ananda Mohan Bhattarai on Tuesday ordered to produce activist Khan before the court at 11 am on Thursday.

Khan was arrested by the Metropolitan Police Circle Lainchaur on Friday evening and was handed over to the Metropolitan Police Circle Singha Durbar. After that, Singha Durbar Circle had sent her to Banke.

Khan has started a hunger strike in the custody cell of the District Police Office, Banke. After the Metropolitan Police Circle, Lainchaur, sent a reply to the Supreme Court that it did not know where Ruby was, the Supreme Court had asked the Singha Durbar Circle.

Following Tuesday’s hearing, Justice Bhattarai ordered that she be produced in court at 11 a.m. on Thursday and not transferred from the custody of the District Police Office, Banke, until further notice.
