Democracy without monarchy, and monarchy without democracy not relevant in Nepal: Former King Gyanendra

KATHMANDU: Former King Gyanendra Shah has said that he has realized that in a country like Nepal, democracy without monarchy and monarchy without democracy is not relevant.

He also expressed immense dissatisfaction with the current political situation in the country.

In a message on the occasion of Bijaya Dashami, former King Gyanendra said, “We have realized that democracy without monarchy and monarchy without democracy cannot be relevant in a country like Nepal despite the fact that the country’s political situation compelled us to take a different responsibility.”

The former king has criticized that the country’s political system has been entangled with selfish motives, factions, and sub-factions.

“Have the ordinary Nepalis, who have been trapped in the whirlpool of coronavirus pandemic, natural calamities, unemployment, sky-rocketing price and instability able to experience service in their interest?” he has asked.
