Unified Socialist elects Pandey PP leader in Bagmati Province Assembly



MAKWANPUR: A meeting of newly formed CPN-Unified Socialist parliamentary party in the Bagmati Province has elected Rajendra Prasad Pandey as its leader.

The meeting held on Sunday was attended by 13 Unifed Socialist lawmakers and was chaired by senior member in the Assembly Madhav Prasad Poudel.

According to sources, the meeting decided to demand the Province Assembly Secretariat to provide office for the parliamentary party.

It also decided to inform the Chief Minister’s Office about the party’s withdrawal to the support the CM had been entertaining.

With the Unified Socialist party’s decision to withdraw the support, Ashta Laxmi Shakya-led government has lost its majority in the parliament.

The Bagmati parliament has eight political parties now.  With 43 lawmakers the UML is in the first position followed by the CPN-Maoist Center with 23 lawmakers. The Nepali Congress (NC) has 22 MPs, Unified Socialist 13 and Bibeksheel Sajha Party has three MPs in the province.

Similarly, Rastriya Prajatantra Party and Nepal Majdur Kisan Party have two members each. There is one independent lawmaker in the Province.

CM Shakya, formerly close to leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, had discarded Nepal’s group when he formed a new party few weeks before.
