President Bhandari prorogues ongoing National Assembly session

KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has prorogued the ongoing National Assembly (NA) session on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers Monday.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli convened an emergency cabinet meeting on Monday to recommend the end of the NA session to the President following the Supreme Court order to reinstate House of Representatives (HoR) and appointing opposition leader Sher Bahadur Deuba as the prime minister.

President Bhandari ended the ongoing NA session with effect from midnight Monday.

The President had called the NA session on July 1 and prorogued it in less than 12 days.

The President’s Office has yet to make public notice of ending the NA. The Federal Parliament Secretariat, meanwhile, issued a notice to notify NA members in this regard.

The NA on Monday scheduled its next meet at 3 pm for Tuesday.
